What this service is — and isn't.
We'd rather over-explain this than have you misread a number. Here's exactly where the line sits.
General information, not personal advice
Energy Counsellor provides general information computed from the bill you upload and publicly available plan data. It does not consider your full financial situation and is not personal financial advice, legal advice, or a recommendation from a licensed adviser.
Where the numbers come from
- Your side: rates, usage, tariff and solar data read from your bill, with confidence scores. If extraction is uncertain, we say so rather than guess.
- The market side: plan data sourced by preference from the official AER / Energy Made Easy CDR dataset, with the source and fetch date shown on every recommendation. Before launch data connections are live, sample data is clearly badged as such.
- Estimates: figures for behavioural changes (hot water timing, EV charging, pool pumps) are modelled ranges based on typical Australian usage, and are labelled with their confidence level.
What can make your outcome differ
Retailer rates change between our data snapshots and your switch. Your usage varies season to season. Conditional discounts, exit fees, and network zone boundaries can shift the maths. Always confirm the current rates and terms with the retailer before signing anything.
Concessions
Concession information describes publicly documented programs and eligibility criteria. Only the administering government body can determine your actual eligibility — we link you to the official application every time.
If you're in hardship
If paying your energy bill is causing genuine hardship, contact your retailer and ask for their hardship program (they are required to have one), call the National Debt Helpline on 1800 007 007, or visit Energy Made Easy. Don’t pay us $29 first — sort the urgent thing.
